Queens man busted for DWI in Elmont

The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Queens?s man for DWI-Leandra?s Law on Thursday, July 04, 2019 at 4:35 A.M. in Elmont.

According to police, while on routine patrol officers observed Jhon Ordonez Mendoza , 30, of 9005 161st street operating a 2005 Dodge Caravan. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike and was failing to maintain its lane and swerved back and forth between lanes without signaling. The officers engaged their emergency lights and initiated a car stop near the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Wellington Road. During the investigation it was discovered that the defendant emitted the odor of alcohol on his breath, and had slurred speech and glassy eyes. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. The defendant?s one year old son was in the back seat as well as the child?s 22 year old mother. The child was released to the mother at scene. No injuries were reported.

The defendant Jhon Ordonez Mendoza is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16- Leandra?s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two (2) counts of Driving While Intoxicated and numerous VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Thursday, July 04, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
