Queens commercial strip engulfed by fire as FDNY battles blaze in middle village with minor injuries reported

A two-alarm fire broke out in Middle Village, Queens, yesterday morning, alarming residents. The fire, reported around 10:56 a.m., started at the rear of a building on Woodhaven Blvd. near 62nd Ave. and 62nd Rd., quickly spreading to several restaurants, including Maca and Taste of Samarkand. The fire was brought under control by 12:16 p.m. after 106 firefighters and EMS medics responded to the scene, according to the NY Daily News.

During the operation, three firefighters sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Northwell Health. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, with ongoing investigations led by authorities.

Space heaters in the outdoor dining extensions of one or two restaurants are being considered as a possible ignition source for the fire, an FDNY source shared with the New York Post.

The FDNY responded with 25 units and over 100 personnel to control the fire. Taste of Samarkand was closed when firefighters arrived.
