Public housing want to ban e bikes due to battery fire

According to FDNY, there have been 26 fires caused by e-bikes in NYCHA public housing citywide since 2021. Now the public housing authority wants to ban e-bikes from their buildings. While this is a long shot since it involves delivery workers, no member of City Council has responded to draft a bill. A 5 year old died along with 4 others during the battery fire from 130 incidents that also had 73 injuries citywide along with public housing. As of today, public housing is demanded by October 15 as the deadline. Meanwhile workers depending on e-bikes living in NYCHA have lawyers lined up for the counter. The next update will be announced by the city if the Mayor’s Office decides to participate
