Police officer shot in Whitestone

Heavy NYPD activity in the vicinity of Whitestone Expressway and 22nd Road reporting a police involved shooting. One police officer shot. Shortly one suspect in custody. The area is now under surveillance to investigate further from Whitestone to Flushing.

The officer is being transported to Jamaica Hospital. The Van Wyck Expressway is closing for route for EMS to transport the officer.

The call came in for a robbery in progress.

Update- Police confirmed the suspect targeted the detective for carjacking on the Whitestone Expressway near 20th Avenue. This is when the incident escalated to shooting.

Next update - During a press brief with the Mayor and NYPD Commissioner, NYPD detective shot in ‘friendly fire’ as officers come across carjacking on Queens expressway during morning rush. The officer is now in stable condition and expect to make full recovery. The Queens DA is working on the charges against the suspect in custody.
