Panhandling complaints inside supermarkets from Stop and Shop to KeyFood

Multiple patrons shopping at the Glen Oaks Key Food and Stop and Shop in New Hyde Park complained of panhandling. According to both store?s workers, panhandlers write out on cardboards showing they have no money for food to feed their children while taking items from the shelves into the shopping carts. Then soliciting other shoppers for money. Asked if anyone prefers food over money, very few complied. According to one store?s manager, as long as they have items in the shopping carts nothing can be done. As for posting, No Soliciting sign, the company won?t allow it. Some shoppers obliged as long as they are not rude or violent. However, management did confirm they can request anyone to leave as long there is harassment complaints. So far no one knows what the panhandlers do with the money.
