One street corner and 13 years later in Queens and Nassau

The Mashriqi family immigrated from war torn Afghanistan to Flushing almost 20 years ago. In 2005, one member of the family started halal food cart on the corner street in Queens. From there, the street carts expanded with the family members calling the business, Hamza and Medina, Shah's Halal and etc. which can be seen on Hillside Avenue and Union Turnpike. Then they opened their first brick and mortar store in Queens and added another inside Queens College. Since then their stores expanded to 8 in Nassau County including New Hyde Park and 3 in Queens. More than 20 locations are filled with their street carts in Queens. Despite criticisms, the family is not stopping their American dream.
