Off duty cop dies after suicide in Astoria

Police were called to a home on 23rd Street and 31st Avenue in Astoria around 1:45am reporting of shots. Reported an off duty NYPD cop was found laying in self inflicted gunshot wound. After transporting to Elmhurst Hospital, he died. The officer being in the force for 4 years stationed in Brownsville is the third member of NYPD to die by suicide this year.
