OMNY reported over one million rides

On August 18 at 9:05pm, MTA reported OMNY reached 1 million rides from its mobile app. The One Metro NY using phone app to tap instead of a MetroCard launched 10 weeks ago became popular with smart phones. The subway lines, 4, 5, 6 between Grand Central Terminal and Barclay Center was the most used route. Currently its in the building stage and by the end of 2020, all subway stations and bus lines will feature the setup. By end of 2023, the Metro Card will be eliminated altogether to focus on cash and OMNY. The OMNY is developed by private company, Cubic Transportation System. At the moment, OMNY is not eligible for discounts, no senior or student discount, unlimited weekly or monthly platform which will be done at the later stage.
