New York State police investigating fatal motor vehicle accident in the town of Cayuta

The New York State Police at Horseheads are investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 224 in the town of Cayuta, Schuyler County.

On May 20, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., troopers responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a 2024 Ford Explorer. The vehicle was traveling westbound on State Route 224 when it left the north side of the roadway while negotiating a curve. The vehicle struck a tree, overturned, and became engulfed in flames.

The sole occupant and operator of the vehicle, an 18-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
