New York State police arrest New Windsor man on child sexual exploitation charges

On January 30, 2026, the New York State Police announced the arrest of David Mejia Sr., age 47, of New Windsor, NY, on charges related to child sexual exploitation.

Mejia Sr. is charged with the following offenses:

               •              Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 17 Years of Age, Class D Felony

               •              Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 16 Years of Age, Possess or Access, Class E Felony

The arrest stems from a proactive investigation that began in July 2025. The investigation revealed that Mejia Sr. was in possession of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children. As a result, a search warrant was executed at Mejia Sr.’s residence in New Windsor in January 2026.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit, Troop F Violent Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team, Troop F Major Crimes Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at Montgomery and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Mejia Sr. was arraigned on January 31, 2026, in the City of Newburgh Court, where he was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Windsor Court on February 10, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
