New Hyde Park woman pleaded guilty with no jail time

Yasmin Seweid, 19 was arrested last year after telling police she was the victim of a hate crime. That incident was reported on December 1, 2016 inside 6 train where she told police a group of white men harassed her and tried to rip her hijab from her head. Weeks later, police found flaws and Seweid admitted she made up the whole thing to avoid from getting trouble with her parents due to missed curfew. On Friday, September 9, she pleaded guilty. As part of her plea, she faces no jail time but must undergo six months of counseling and 72 hours of community service. The Muslim student was attending Hunter College when the incident was reported.
