NYC to introduce minimum wage for ride sharing apps drivers

The NYC Dept of Taxi and Limousine Commission is working on the plan to setup a minimum wage of $17.22 after expenses for drivers using the ride sharing mobile apps. They are Uber, Lyft, Via and June. Most drivers earns $3.37 median per hour after expenses according to MIT Technology Review. The plan was brought by the city's chief taxi regulator since 85% of app based drivers make less than that proposed wage. The city also wants to reduce congestion by offering shared ride drivers an additional $1 per rider as well as incentives for those who use wheelchair-accessible vehicles. So what's the catch? The minimum wage will gives NYC tax income by allowing all to join the apps companies.
