NYC school bus drivers to have more background checks

Starting Monday, the NYC Dept of Education will pass all applications of potential school bus drivers to Division of Human Capital for further screening. Current bus drivers will be investigated by the Office of Special Investigations once complaints are received. Each year, more than 80,000 complaints are made against NYC school bus drivers from reckless endangerment to failure to obey traffic laws. The Dept of Education spokesperson reported the change was due to retired NYPD Eric Reynolds whose signature was used without his knowledge hiring 100 people as bus drivers.
