NYC Mayor s time line for public schools update

Last July, the mayor moves to reopen schools despite opposition. In August, mayor pushes forward with strict closure threshold. In September and October, mayor praises low positivity with schools open. In November, threshold hit with positive cases skyrocket in the city not affecting schools. The mayor closed public schools and now announce re-open with much more protections. The mayor is guided by facts and data from whoever is feeding the office. Today the mayor announce schools will open on December 7 for 3-K, Pre-K and Grade K-5. For all grades in the District 75 will be open December 10. Until then middle and high school students will stay remote learning. The reason due to District 75 is highly specialized instructional support for students with significant challenges, such as: Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) Significant cognitive delays. Emotional disturbances.

As for testing, all students must submit consent forms before returning. The mayor says, "Weekly testing will be modeled on the approach used on a monthly basis up to now," This says 20% of random students and staff will be tested every week.

The form is available at http://mystudent.nyc

The mayor says with smile whenever possible, the re-opening will be 5 days a week in-person learning instead of remote and will make it happen without timetable.
