NY to have the first advanced nuclear power plant

The NY Governor announced today a new advanced nuclear power plant will be set up in the state to power over one million homes with utilities. It will be focused on the new data center and microchip base which is under development.

It will start in upstate and the NY Power Authority will have the construction authority.

The Governor announced one part of upstate is to have a new advanced tech center including AI. The taxpayer budget was not disclosed.

Despite opposition from the left to have solar panels and wind power while the right wants to leave it as it is with fossil fuels, the project is all set to go forth.

The new plant would create up to 1,600 jobs during construction and over 1,000 to operate as usual once it's ready.

There are three nuclear power plants in NY with one in Rochester and two in Oswego which are the older models.

This is smaller in size and takes less time to set up. The Governor said this is entirely different from the Indian Point nuclear plant which was closed in 2021 that created high polutions in the area over the years without clean up by the state.

If successful, then more locations will be announced including Long Island.
