NJ man busted for scamming a NHP woman

Police arrested Tejas Kapur, 51 of New Jersey and charged with grand larceny.

The incident unfolded at the parking lot of Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park when the victim, a female, 69, realized she was scammed.

It all started when the victim received a call from Kapur claiming he works for Walmart and there are fraudulent charges on the card.

Then Kapur allegedly told the victim the social security number had been compromised and withdrew the account to handle it better.

The victim withdrew $20,000 and gave it to Kapur as a trust to keep the money safe.

On Friday, September 13, the victim was reached out to withdraw more money.

This is when the victim alerted police.

Kapur was picked up shortly from the phone tracking to the nearest location in Garden City Park at the City Park Plaza.

He was arraigned on Saturday.
