Micro hub zones a go in NYC

Bus lane, bike lane, now delivery lane. NYC is on a roll.

The NYC Dept of Transportation Commissioner announced a new program called microhub zones for local delivery spots.

This is approved by the administrative rule bypassing the City Council.

The process is to alleviate traffic by delivery trucks by moving items to smaller ones in a designated lot around NYC. Then a smaller unit will move the delivery to the next location.

For now this is a three year pilot program with more handcarts, smaller sprint vans and e-cargo bikes only.

The first five pilot locations will be in Greenpoint, Clinton Hill, and the Upper West Side. Each assigned zone will have a permit issued to the delivery company who applies.

This is the list of locations,

Upper West Side on Amsterdam Avenue & West 73rd Street, Amsterdam Avenue & West 85th Street and Broadway and West 77th Street.

The next two off-street sites are located under the BQE.

Clinton Hill: A portion of the block under the BQE on Park Avenue between Washington Avenue and Hall Street.

Greenpoint: A portion of the block under the BQE on Meeker Avenue between Sutton Street and Kingsland Avenue.
