Media Advisory Text to 911 program

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder to announce the launch of a Countywide Text-to-911 Program.

In an emergency, dialing 9-1-1 should be the primary method for getting help.  At times, there are circumstances where Texting for an emergency is the most proficient way to request help.  Some of those circumstances are:

• If you have a hearing or speech disability
• Cannot speak due to an injury or medical condition
• If you are in a threating situation and a voice call could increase the threat
• You cannot make a call because your mobile phone reception is poor

Communication Bureau Operators will demonstrate the Text-to-911 system live
