Mayor di Blasio to allot funding to legalize basements in NYC

Mayor di Blasio has announced $5.7 million in funding from the preliminary budget for basement legalization in NYC. The pilot program is part of affordable housing to keep rent low in NYC. The funding will be used in East New York, Brooklyn and after the program is successful, further locations will be announced including Queens. The city's building department will work with landlords for codes and other legal issues along with loans to make basements fit for tenants.
