Mastic man indicted for allegedly stabbing 71 year old during a road rage incident

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Jeremiah Giraud, 25, of Mastic, was indicted for Assault in the Second Degree and related charges, for allegedly stabbing a 71-year-old motorist in the neck with a knife after a road rage incident.

“No one should fear for their life or safety because other motorists on our roadways act out of anger,” said District Attorney Tierney. “My office is committed to ensuring that those who resort to violence on our roads face serious consequences.”

According to the investigation, on May 19, 2026, at approximately 9:07 a.m., the victim was driving when he arrived and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Ditmas Avenue and Riviera Drive in Mastic. Giraud was allegedly passenger in a Nissan Murano that pulled up behind the victim’s vehicle at the intersection. The driver of the Nissan Murano allegedly honked their horn at the victim, and the victim honked back. The victim then made a U-turn, and the driver of the Nissan Murano made a right-hand turn onto Riviera Drive. Shortly after, the Nissan Murano drove back onto Ditmas Avenue and honked at the victim again. Giraud and the victim both exited from the vehicles and had a brief interaction before Giraud allegedly stabbed the victim in the back of the neck with a knife.

Giraud then allegedly got back into the Nissan Murano and was driven away from the scene. The victim called 911 and was transported to NYU Langone in Patchogue where he was treated for his injury.

Giraud was arrested in Mastic. The knife that Giraud allegedly used in the attack was recovered from the Nissan Murano by law enforcement.

On June 25, 2026, Giraud was arraigned on the indictment before Acting Supreme Court Justice Steven A. Pilewski for two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Class D violent felonies, and one count of Assault in the Third Degree, a Class A misdemeanor. Justice Pilewski ordered Giraud held on $50,000 cash, $100,000 bond, or $500,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case.

Giraud is due back in court on July 20, 2026, and faces up to 2 ⅓ to 7 years in prison if convicted of the top count.
