Man under observation after heavy fire in College Point

The FDNY reported a heavy fire at a residence in College Point this morning around 6:30am on 124th Street near 15th Avenue. The fire was declared a second alarm as per fire marshal inside the two story home.

EMS transported six people to local hospitals with injuries and one in critical condition.

By 7:30am, the fire was brought under control.

The NYPD was also on the scene and a man was taken into custody for questioning. The local neighbors say the same man has a history of mental illness and may have set the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.l
