Man died from injuries in Fresh Meadows

Police were called to the intersection of Union Turnpike and 175th Street next to St. John's on January 23 around 11pm for a pedestrian struck by vehicle. On Wednesday late afternoon, the victim, identified as Philip O'Reilly, 71 of Elmhurst died of injuries at Elmhurst Hospital. The driver, a 47 year old male has not been charged due to ongoing investigation. Police reported the driver was heading west Union Turnpike and O'Reilly was crossing the intersection during the warning signal. O'Reilly was taking a freelance class at the time.
