MTA says only ten million bucks for barriers

The MTA has introduced R188s, a big word for anti surfing barriers to be added on certain trains to prevent teens from going to the roof while the train is moving. The current NYC Mayor filed lawsuits against companies from allowing videos of teens subway surfing but that didn't hold well in court with taxpayer funds. Now comes barriers which will be added to 7, 6 and the J lines in the coming weeks to test out. The program only costs taxpayers just a measly $10 million bucks. The first prototype was installed to see the outcome and it's a success so far. For the year 2024, there were six deaths from subway surfing and this year was five. The Mayor announced 7 lines is the first priority after last night a group of teens were attempting to surf but were stopped by police after riders called 911.

If this is successful, then the MTA will add to all trains which can cost a cool billion bucks for safety.
