Long Island cop stabbed after pursuit in Patchogue

An SCPD officer was stabbed by a suspect after pursuit in Patchogue. It happened on Saturday night around 10:30pm at the intersection of Brook Street and South Ocean Avenue. The officer is in critical condition but in recovery stage at the local hospital. Police reported the driver suspect was on the road without the headlights on a 1999 Mercedes. When the officer flashed sires alerting the driver to pull over refused until chase started. The chase ended when the Mercedes hit a parked vehicle. The officer managed to tackle the driver who ran off on foot. This is when the suspect stabbed the officer in the leg and passed out. A good samaritan kept the suspect on the ground until more officers arrived. Both were taken to local hospitals. Charges are pending for the alleged suspect, Jonathan Nunez, 25 of Centereach. Ongoing investigation.
