Lone Republican councilmember introduced a bill to allow votes before removing landmark status in NYC

Local NYC Councilmember Eric Ulrich, the only Republican from Howard Beach presented a bill on Tuesday, October 31 stating any landmark status must have votes from the entire city council members before taking it down. The bill was drafted after the controversal issue regarding Columbus statue at the Columbus Circle which many want to be removed. Mayor di Blasio created a special task commission to conduct a research to decide the factor. The mayor's commission is also conducting which status should remain and those need to be taken down. The mayor's office reported Ulrich's bill is unlikely to play any role over the commission report. Although di Blasio reported during Democratic primary debate the Columbus statue is favored for removal despite protest from Italian Americans. The mayor's office will announce the update from the commission as soon as a decision is made. pic by Wiki.
