Local politicians gather for press conference in Floral Park

A local priest at the Hindu temple on Hillside Avenue and 264 Street in Floral Park was attacked but no hate crime has been charged due to ongoing investigation. According to Channel 11, a witness also a member of the temple said it was a hate crime. The same witness recanted the story later to police. Today, local politicians gathered at the temple stating hate crime has no place in NYC. People including reporters asked the same questions of the Islamic center few blocks from the temple where no hate crime was reported of worshipper walking on Hillside Avenue in their ethnic attire and the politicians didn't reply to that. One staffer with a local politician implied its a publicity stunt for re-election where moderate Democrats are losing ground to the left group. The 105th Precinct is still investigating the case of possible hate crime and will update the latest with Queens DA's office. Meanwhile the suspect, Sergio Gouveia has been released on recognizance with temporary order of protection. He is charged with harassment, criminal possession of weapon and physical injury. The next court date is September 17.
