Lawrence man indicted on attempted murder assault charges for attacking sister with crossbow

Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Lawrence man was indicted on attempted murder, assault, and other charges for allegedly shooting his sister in the head using a crossbow in February 2026.

Samy Sedhom, 21, was arraigned today before Judge Robert Schwartz on grand jury indictment charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (a B violent felony); Assault in the First Degree (a B violent felony); Assault in the Second Degree (a D violent felony); and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (an A misdemeanor).

Sedhom pleaded not guilty and remains remanded. He is due back in court on April 30. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

“The defendant’s alleged actions were violent and calculated,” DA Donnelly said. “Sedhom allegedly tracked his sister and lain in wait before brutally attacking her with a crossbow in a clear attempt to take her life. An attack that was born out of revenge for an ongoing dispute about the temperature in their home and came within inches of being fatal. Home should be a safe haven, not a place of fear and bloodshed. My office will hold this defendant accountable for causing such deliberate harm.”

DA Donnelly said that, according to the indictment, on February 13, 2026, at approximately 9:20 p.m., the defendant’s sister was arriving home from the gym when she noticed the defendant’s car parked across the street from their shared residence on West Avenue in Lawrence.

After the victim parked her car inside the detached garage and began entering the external code to close the garage door, Sedhom, allegedly armed with a high-performance Barnett Whitetail Hunter Crossbow, shot his sister with a G5 hunting arrow in the head, causing heavy bleeding and serious physical injuries to the victim’s right ear, right cheek, and face.

The victim was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and close the approximately six-inch-long laceration to her face.

After the shooting, the defendant allegedly returned to his vehicle and drove to the intersection of West Avenue and Bayview Avenue in Lawrence, where he discarded the crossbow.

The weapon was later recovered by members of the Nassau County Police Department.

A search of the defendant’s bedroom executed on the night of the alleged attack, yielded a black Katana sword, a laptop, and an empty crossbow box matching the same make and model as the weapon used in the attack.

The investigation revealed the defendant had allegedly been planning to kill his sister since December 2025, after a series of arguments between the defendant and the victim over the temperature of their home’s thermostat.

Sedhom allegedly purchased the crossbow, a 3-pack of hunting arrows, and a GPS device prior to the attack and later installed the GPS device inside his sister’s vehicle to track her movements.

Sedhom was arrested on February 14, 2026, by detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s 4th Precinct Squad.
