Landlords to pay cooling systems for tenants in NYC

Starting 2030, all landlords in NYC must provide cooling systems for tenants upon request in the summer. Yes, landlords must pay the installation cost plus cooling system of all kinds from portable air conditioner to ventilation system and not the tenants.

Tenants must be happy in NYC since they must be protected.

The program, Cool Homes for All, passed in the NYC Council.

Landlords have no right to complain and it will be enforced by the NYC Housing Preservation Dept that oversees buildings to fine to help the city make millions. Fine can range from warning to $250 per day while the no heat is $500 per day until provided to tenants.

According to the City Council, around 850,000 tenants in the city don't have air conditioning, which is a dream to keep cool due to poverty. The free air conditioner program for tenants did not fare well since they had to apply, go to the city's office, file paperwork and so much other work. This is easier with nothing to do but let the landlords do all the work while not missing favorite movies to watch.

NYC's new campaign is focused on disproportion in low-income and black and brown neighborhoods.

However, the electric bill from the cooling system must be paid by tenants. Oh well can't have it both ways.
