LIE eastbound closed due to fatality

Long Island Expressway eastbound closed at Exit 36 in North Hills due to an overturned tractor trailer. It happened around 3:30am. ESU is working on the scene to remove the trailer.

Traffic is being re-routed to local routes.

Update - Here is the statement from NCPD.

According to detectives, a 1996 dump truck was traveling eastbound, in the right lane of the Long Island Expressway at exit 36, when it was struck from behind by a 2013 Mack Truck (tractor trailer), causing the dump truck to overturn. The dump truck was being operated by a 59-year-old, male white, who was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 4:14 AM by a staff physician due to the injuries sustained during the collision. The Mack Truck was being operated by a 43-year-old male, who remained at scene and was not injured. No criminality is suspected.
