John Liu made a surprise announcement

Former NYC Comptroller and Flushing resident John Liu announced last minute weekend that he is running against NYS Senate Tony Avella. Currently, Avella's competition is Whitestone resident and Republican Vickie Albrizio Paladino who has been campaigning aggressively. Liu is running on Democratic ballot. Avella was a member of Independent Democratic Conference which was dissolved in April 2018 after not enough support to be recognized officially. Currently Liu's campaign is at a local Dunkin Donuts in 215-22 73rd Ave in Bayside for the weekend to get the support to be on the ballot. This is the second time Liu is challenging Avella after lost in 2014 by less than 1,000 votes. The primary is on September 13 and Liu needs 3,000 signatures to get on the ballet.
