Investigators seek additional victims in investigation involving man who posed as 16 year old

New York State Police are investigating allegations that a 21-year-old male posed as a teenager in order to communicate with and engage in sexual activity with underage victims.

During the investigation, it was determined that Christian Carolan, age 21, of Afton, represented himself as being 15 or 16 years old while interacting with minors.

Investigators have identified at least one victim but believe there may be additional victims who had contact with Carolan.  Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

As a result of the initial investigation, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Sidney determined that Carolan had sexual relations with a teenage victim under the age of 13.  During at least one encounter, the victim was forced to perform sexual acts.

On October 1, 2026, Investigators made contact with Carolan at a residence in Afton.  When Investigators told him he was going to be placed under arrest, he resisted then later kicked an Investigator’s vehicle causing damage to the vehicle.

Carolan has been charged with:

Three counts of Rape in the 1st degree, a class “B” felony

Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor

Resisting arrest, a misdemeanor

Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, a class “E” felony

Carolan was processed at SP Sidney and later transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the jail on $40,000 cash, $80,000 insurance company bail bond or $120,000 partially secured bond.

As part of the ongoing investigation, New York State Police are releasing a photograph of Carolan.  Investigators believe displaying his photograph may help victims who interacted with him while he was allegedly representing himself as a teenager recognize him and determine whether they may have had contact with him.
