Inadequate funding over corporation still the same business model in NYC

NYC launched free legal services for small businesses in January 2018 with $2.4 million dollars in place for 2 years.

The program under Commercial Lease Assistance Program was to provide mom and pop stores to provide legal services for free without driving them out of business by bigger corporations and landlords.

As of December with the year coming to end, the program has not been successful with rising rents and costs to retain consumers.

One factor was the city will not involve in legal proceeding in court but advise purpose only.

Already, landlords have taken small businesses to courts making ways for well known brands for higher rent. The city was unable to offer legal representation which was not part of the agreement.

One main reason was due to corporations with unlimited resources compare to city's limited structure.
