Housing court update for landlords and tenants

The housing court opened on June 22 in NYC. The first process is for landlords to serve papers by mail after filing with the court clerks for holdover or non-payment NOT related to COVID-19. The second process is for tenants for repairs or illegal lockouts which can be filed in person or electronically. The eviction moratorium is on hold until July 7 for those filed before the pandemic. There are no court dates until July 7 and clerks advised if both landlords and tenants have legal representatives, then virtual meeting is allowed with the judge. As for non-payment due to COVID-19, landlords cannot file until August 21 when the eviction moratorium starts.
