Homicide and rape are up but crime still down in NYC

Mayor di Blasio reported today that crime is still down but homicide was up in January 2019. There were 27 murders compared to 22 in January of last year.

The mayor also confirmed the first week of February there were 5 murders and 4 of that were in Queens.

Another crime, rape is at 150 compared to 118 of January 2018. The mayor and NYPD Commissioner gave a press statement at Brownsville, the highest crime location in NYC. The other five are South Bronx, Hunts Point, Tremont in the Bronx, East New York in Brooklyn and East Harlem.

As for crime is down, there were 196 crimes inside the city's transit system down by 3. The other crime is felony which is 7,072 compared to 7,638 in January 2018.

Overall the mayor reported NYC is still safe.
