Homeowners will face fine if sidewalk trees are removed

The mayors office confirmed no home owners can remove the trees from sidewalks if damaged by private company. If so, homeowners will face a hefty fine from $2,500 to $10,000. The solution is to call 311 and have the city make assessments and then cut the trees and fix the sidewalk by transportation department. In the meantime homeowners are advised to have lawyer handy in case someone fall or trip on the sidewalk damaged by city trees to avoid lawsuits. Homeowners can remove trees inside their properties by hiring a private company. The mayors office also reported due to high volume of trees down, estimated process is from 7 to 10 days so be patient. All NYC sidewalk trees are recorded and maintained by the city. The same with Long Island in most parts.
