Homeless shelter planned in Douglaston

The city announced a homeless shelter for women primarily seniors will be open in Douglaston. This is at 243-02 Northern Blvd which will be operated by Samaritan Village, a non-profit group which was granted around $75 million. There will be space for 75 beds. The original plan was for single men's shelters but after oppose from local politicians, the city changed to women only. The shelter will provide medical and counseling. This is one of the 20 locations under Samaritan Village.
