Home fire and squatters in Hempstead and Hicksville

First a basement fire in Hicksville. The incident was reported on June 13 at a home on Layton Avenue around 9:30am. All occupants were removed.

On Saturday morning around 9:30am, a fire broke out of a home in Hempstead. This is on Front Street near Sunset Drive.

According to the Town of Hempstead officials, the home was divided illegally and neighbors stated some were squatters.

Around 20 people from the home were removed and the Red Cross relocated them to shelters.

The cause of fire for both locations are under investigation.
