Hit and run with one dead on the VWE southbound

The NYPD is investigating a hit and run with one dead on the Van Wyck Expressway southbound in Kew Garden Hills. This is by the Jewel Avenue Exit.

From the police statement, a disabled vehicle was on the shoulder and a good samaritan stopped by to help. This is when another vehicle struck the good samaritan and took off toward southbound.

A witness stated the good samaritan stopped the vehicle on the shoulder lane while exiting when the incident happened.

EMS transported the same victim to a local hospital and died shortly.

Highway CIS is investigating the scene.

The incident was reported this afternoon around 12pm.

ESU is also working on the scene.

Police are coordinating the traffic for airport bound travelers.

Heavy delays all around.
