The eviction moratorium will be extended to August 31 in NY from the current expiration of May 1. Tenants will be protected from eviction if they submit hardship documents under the state's rent relief programs which will open next month. Landlords can file for foreclosures and tax lien sales but still have to pay the mortgage and utility bills. It's only $2.4 billion dollars from the taxpayers fund and will cover up to 15 months of rent. So far, 35,000 tenants have filed for hardship awaiting for results. If a tenant is not qualified, then eviction is set forth and will have to work out a payment arrangement with the landlord in court. In NYC alone, 4.7 million are receiving public benefits and the goal is 5 million in time for election in June.
