Governor lost the case for suburbs veto

The NY Governor will not override local zoning in Long Island and suburban NY except NYC for building affordable units after lawsuits piled up. The biggest lead went to Nassau County, still resisting changes. Under the budget negotiation, local zoning will be offered incentive programs that must be approved by towns per each zoning board.

The original plan was to build 800,000 affordable units within a short mile radius of public transportation including LIRR.

The move will push to NYC to have more affordable units including changing zones aimed toward Brooklyn and part of western Queens.
