Free transportation to Rikers Island launched in NYC

On Wednesday, April 25, NYC launched free transportation service to Rikers Island from Manhattan and Brooklyn. The cost is projected to $1.6 million per year taxpayers fund. This is part of Mayor di Blasio's reform of criminal justice system. Correction dept reported visits are important from families to encourage inmates to turn around their lives. The current transportation route are Harlem and downtown Brooklyn at Jay Street and Fulton Avenue.
