Former Queens congressman accused of sex assault

Former congressman Gary Ackerman who represented Bayside and northeast Queens along with part of Nassau County has been accused of sexual assault. The incident allegedly happened in 1960's when a 17 year old boy while working as a Boy Scout in upstate New York. The lawsuit was filed last week by the victim. Ackerman was 23 year old then and director of Ten Mile River Camp where he worked. The lawsuit highlighted that Ackerman seduced the teen to perform oral sex on him. Ackerman's lawyer denied all the allegations. The lawsuit came after the new law was passed whereby victims can sue as part of Child Victims Act in August 14.
