Fire at a vacant Hempstead home with two dead

This morning the Nassau County firefighters reported a fire at a vacant home resulted with two dead. The fire started around 1:30am on Sycamore Avenue at unit 45 when calls came in from 911. The fire marshal says the home was boarded up with plywood and possibly occupied by squattors.

The home was abandoned in October 2025 from a local neighbor after the property went into foreclosure.

The medical examiner transported the bodies to conduct autopsies to determine the cause of deaths.

EMS reported no injuries to firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
