Feds said NO to supervised facilities for heroin users in NYC

Back in May, Mayor di Blasio announced overdose prevention centers where heroin users can inject under watchful eyes of trained staffs. On Tuesday, US Dept of Justice denied plans for such facilities in NYC and the mayor is disappointed. Justice Dept reported it would create conflicts with federal law in the matter of drug enforcement. Also, the feds reported the sites would be in violation to Controlled Substance Act. The mayor reported such facilities were effective and works in Canada and Europe. The feds also reported anyone shooting heroin and watching can get arrested and face jail time. However, the city already approved the plan and now its in the pending stage with the Albany for state review. The pic is an injection center in Canada.
