FDNY reported fatal fire in Manhattan was accidental

Around 12:30am last night, FDNY reported fire at 80 Madison Street in lower Manhattan. The 3rd alarm was extended throughout the e-bike store. 6 people were taken to local hospitals with 4 dead. The fire marshal reported this was a result of a lithium iron battery on the first floor that spread to the second floor where tenants lived.

One firefighter was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters are continuing with the investigation.
