Elizaville man arrested for firing BB gun into Clermont residence

On October 14, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., State Police Livingston were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a report of shots fired into a private residence on County Route 6 in the town of Clermont, New York.

An investigation conducted by the Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniform members revealed that Joseph J. Murell, 21, of Elizaville, NY, intentionally fired multiple rounds into the residence using a Crosman CO₂ BB gun. There is no known connection between Murell and the occupants of the home.

On October 15, 2025, Murell was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a class E felony.

Murell was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Clermont Court on November 20, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
