Elderly struck by hit and run vehicle in Whitestone

Police are in front of 17-17 Murray Street in Whitestone reporting an elderly struck by vehicle while crossing. The vehicle took off reporting it's a white Chevy van with front damage. Heavy police presence searching for the driver. EMS transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital and may not be alive. Ongoing investigation. Update - The victim, a male, 71 is now in critical condition. The victim was heading to his local church to meet the priest. The driver has been located and arrested. He has been identified as Carmine Minichino, 52 of Corona. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle.
