EMT on duty stabbed in Astoria

Heavy police activity on Steinway Street and 20th Avenue reporting a barricaded male inside an apartmen holding a woman hostage. Before this incident, the suspect stabbed an FDNY EMT by the station in an unprovoked attack.

Now police are at a location on 41st Street between 29 and 20th Avenues.

ESU is working on the scene.

Ongoing investigation.

Update - The EMT, a 61 year old female working at Station 49 in Astoria died at the local hospital.

The suspect is in custody and charges are pending.

The member of FDNY who was murdered in an unprovoked attack is identified as Alison Russo-Elling, a 25 year veteran.
