Drain drain drain and more drain to go in NYC

It’s not a climate crisis but drainage in dire need of replacements.

The NY Governor is declaring a State of Emergency across the city, Long Island and Hudson Valley due to heavy rainfall.

NYC sewer lines are clogged up, unable for water to drain properly into the sewer system. According to the NYC Environmental Protection that oversees all water infrastructure, $100 billion would be required to replace all lines for proper drainage from heavy rainfall, says the officials. Almost all sewer lines have never been replaced and clogged throughout the city in need of repairs. The DEP proposes 4.42% increase to pay for stormwater resilience and infrastructure upgrades.

Will the Mayor approves the hike to those paying water bills?

Two years ago, Biden visited Elmhurst where the flooding was deadly and had new drainages installed all over. Today the area is flooded as usual. Local elected officials are silent on where the money went. Meanwhile, residents living in the basements where floods are rampant have been relocated to shelters along with the migrants demanding answers.

The NYC Comptroller last year quoted, “Basement apartments offer a real opportunity for more affordable housing. Excited to for affordable basement apts to expand citywide!”

As for road flooding on the parkways, it's the state jurisdiction and the Governor is pointing fingers to the local city and county's dept of transportation.
