Dead whale investigation in Queens

The NYPD closed off one part of the Rockaway Beach near 95th Street reporting a dead whale was found washed ashore overnight. The incident was reported this morning after a sei whale was sighted on Long Island waters last night. As of now, the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society, a nonprofit that performs the necropsies and coordinates the removal of the carcass with the city's parks department is working on the scene. This is the first for this year in NYC and May 2025 was the last time a dead whale was found at Rockaway Beach. Overall in NY including Long Island there were 10 dead whales found on the shore.
